Our Favorite Useful Travel Apps & Websites

Useful Travel apps that We Love…

Check back often – we are always discovering &

adding truly helpful tips!

ROAM – We JUST used this, it worked perfectly! It’s from U.S. Customs and Border Protection & it allows pleasure boaters and other eligible travelers who arrive at remote locations to report their arrival online. Don’t ‘create a trip’ until you’re ready to return/check in though.

AUDIBLE – Perfect for the Watch-Stander –  Let’s you listen to your favorite books, or catch up on your reading list – especially great for the person who’s standing watch – day or night.

INK – Need to send a birthday or holiday card but you’re traveling or out of the country? Just a few clicks turns your pics into a card that gets mailed out for you! LOVE THIS!

Marine Traffic – We love this VERY useful travel app because it’s very similar to AIS. We can track other boats and new ‘boat friends’ we’ve made. Our friends and family can also track us easily as well.

Anchor! – This useful travel app lets us get good night’s sleep! It let’s you know if your anchor is dragging, it’s easy to set up your anchor position, and coordinates well with any electronic charts you may already be using.

ProCamera – Makes your photos look 100% better – Use the HDR setting!

The Spot App and Spot Connect – they coordinate with our BELOVED Spot Device – The Spot Device is truly PEACE of MIND, and for a lot less hassle, expense, and complexity of an EPIRB. You can take it with you hiking or biking or on any adventure and it can send a life-saving message by satellite! We also use it to have family track us and with the touch of a button,  it sends out ‘we are okay’ emails with our location, whether we have any cell service or not! It’s phenomenally useful travel app!

Out of Milk  – We use this app for inventory of our provisions (foods and prepared meals, + kitchen and bath supplies) while on board Traveller.  What’s best about this app is that it allows you to keep an inventory of what you have on your boat or RV, and best of all,  you can set it up to share the list with anyone else who may be shopping/provisioning for you as well. We like it because you can customize the categories and easily delete items that you’ve used up while cooking or have eaten or used up.  It’s so helpful to have it when you’re shopping — you know what you have and what you need. Another great feature about keeping an inventory of all your provisions AND already prepared meals is that when you’re really tired and really hungry, which often happens when you’re traveling, you can simply look at this app and get an idea – quickly – of what you can have for dinner. We’ve all experienced times when you’re really tired and really hungry or hangry,  it’s the last time you actually feel like thinking of what you can have to eat. Simply put, it’s the perfect assistant for throwing together a meal or preparing for a journey.

WhatsApp – We love this useful travel app it saves us $ on calls and messages! Basically, it’s FREE messaging, voicemails, pics and videos for smartphones. WhatsApp uses your phone’s Internet connection (4G/3G/2G/EDGE or Wi-Fi, as available) to let you message and call friends and family. Switch from SMS to WhatsApp to send and receive messages, calls, photos,…

Viber – Another way to keeping touch for FREE! And if you need to connect & keep in touch with those with LANDLINES, you can do so for VERY little money. Viber stands out as a useful travel app because it lets you connect to those who aren’t ‘on the net’ and who still have landline phones.

We are working on updating the list with a few more, so please check back, we want to save you from the trial and error process that we went through with these apps! Cheers!
